The compass rose is a common motif in all sorts of furniture and decor. The compass was among humanity’s earliest efforts to both explore the world and to bring meaning to it. A compass rose simultaneously symbolizes a desire and intent to wander into the wilds, and a sure tool for getting home. It seemed appropriate for the table in my ‘69 Airstream, a table where I can pore over maps and guides as I wander, and where I can plan a retreat.
